Just
as breast augmentation can increase the size of a
woman's breasts, so can a breast reduction be performed
to correct overly-large breasts. This procedure is
often covered by insurance because of the physical
discomfort this condition creates. For example, sometimes
a woman's breasts can be so large as to cause back
and neck pain; in most cases, insurance carriers will
cover the cost of the surgery.
In
a breast reduction mammoplasty, our chicago surgeon
creates an incision around the nipple and in the crease
under the breast and removes excess breast tissue.
This necessitates repositioning of the nipple. Because
of the nature of the surgery, the reduction mammoplasty
creates a good deal of scarring which will fade, although
not disappear completely, as time passes.
A
breast reduction mammoplasty is performed under general
anesthesia.
