Like
the nose, the chin is an important facial characteristic.
Many times, correction of moderate chin displacements
(an underdeveloped chin) can me made by making use
of silicone implants which can be shaped to the required
contour and positioned through a small incision either
inside the lower lip or under the chin. When a chin
protrudes (forward displacement), the surgeon may
choose to reduce bone prominence or reposition the
entire lower jaw (when dental realignment is necessary)
This
procedure is often done in conjunction with a rhinoplasty
since the chin is a prominent part of the profile
and also affects the appearance of the nose.
