There
is perhaps no area in cosmetic surgery with more dramatic
results than rhinoplasty and nasal surgery in Chicago. Because the nose is the
prominent feature on the face, its' reduction or modification
through rhinoplasty can effect tremendous changes
to the face. Additionally, nasal surgery is one of
the most common types of aesthetic surgery. Technical
refinements in rhinoplasty enable the plastic surgeon
to achieve far better results today than was the case
just a decade ago.
Like
many facial cosmetic procedures, the rhinoplasty can be performed
under local or general anesthesia on an outpatient
basis at a local Chicago location. Nasal surgery is performed by removing, shifting
or altering underlying bone and cartilage structures
through incisions made inside the nose. Consequently,
the scars will not be visible following the surgery.
Occasionally, small external incisions are made to
reduce the size of the nostrils. In addition to improving
the appearance of the nose, problems with the breathing
mechanism are corrected during rhinoplasty.
At
the close of the operation, a splint is placed over
the outside of the nose to maintain proper position
and reduce nasal swelling. This remains in place for
five to six days post-operatively. No exercise, sports
or rigorous activity should be undertaken for a period
of four weeks after the surgery to prevent movement
or shifting of nasal bones while they are healing.
Post Operative
swelling is rather lengthy in duration. Most of the
swelling will disappear six to eight weeks after the
surgery. However, the final result of the rhinoplasty in Chicago
may not be apparent until perhaps one year after the
surgery is performed.
The
perception of rhinoplasty has changed in recent years.
Decades ago, patients going to a particular cosmetic
surgeon might have received a similar appearing nose,
regardless of their other facial characteristics.
Today, plastic surgeons attempt to mold the nose to
a particular individual's face, thereby creating a
naturally - beautiful nose rather than a nose bearing
the print of the surgeon's hand.
